Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has delivered an update on midfielder Paulo Bernardo’s injury, which he sustained during the Scottish Cup match against Raith Rovers on Saturday. Bernardo, who was substituted before halftime in that game, was initially expected to recover in time for Wednesday’s clash with Bayern Munich, but his absence from the squad signaled a more serious issue.

Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, Rodgers confirmed that Bernardo’s recovery timeline has significantly shifted. The manager revealed:
“Paulo has his ankle in a boot, so he’s looking at being out for maybe four or five weeks. He’s been fantastic for us this season, and we’ve worked hard to keep the squad fit by rotating and utilizing all the players. Unfortunately, he’ll be sidelined for a little while longer, but we still have good depth in that position, which is crucial given the number of games ahead.”

Bernardo’s absence is a blow for Celtic, as he has been a reliable option both as a starter and off the bench. The team still has midfielders Callum McGregor, Arne Engels, Reo Hatate, and Luke McCowan available, but the loss of Bernardo weakens the squad’s depth, especially during a busy period.

Over the next five weeks, Celtic faces seven matches, including the highly anticipated Glasgow derby against Rangers at Celtic Park on March 16, just before the international break. Rodgers will need to carefully manage his midfield rotation to navigate the demanding schedule.
