Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Max Eberl, expressed his delight after the German champions secured a hard-fought victory in the intense atmosphere of Celtic Park, famously known as Paradise.
Bayern edged the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie with a narrow 2-1 win, carrying an important lead back to Bavaria. England captain Harry Kane netted the decisive goal, marking his 61st career strike in European competitions from just 77 starts with Bayern and Spurs.
Eberl was full of admiration for the electric Parkhead atmosphere, describing it as a “seething cauldron.” He remarked, “Every win is crucial for us, and escaping from this seething cauldron they call Paradise with a victory feels like a huge accomplishment. This match demanded immense effort and determination from the team. We can’t afford to drop our intensity after this.”
Highlighting Celtic’s formidable home record, Eberl added, “I read that Celtic hadn’t lost at home in 35 games, so this win is even more significant for us. The atmosphere was something extraordinary. You could see the team was initially shocked by the roar of the crowd, but they adapted quickly and grew into the game.”
Bayern took a commanding 2-0 lead before conceding from a set piece, making for a nervy finish. Eberl admitted, “It was unnecessary to concede that goal, but overall, we handled a very challenging away game well and deserved the win.”
He also reserved special praise for Dayot Upamecano, who was named Man of the Match. “Dayot was outstanding. He is an exceptional central defender, and he proved his quality tonight against Celtic.”
The victory marks an important step for Bayern as they prepare for a critical period in their campaign.
